Lindsey Davis
Lindsey graduated with a bachelor's degree in philosophy, but little idea of what to do with it. After stumbling into a junior editor role in children's publishing, she dabbled in the world of marketing and PR before landing the role of web editor on Homebuilding & Renovating in 2013. Having envisioned a career as an architect as a child, this felt like the best (read: easiest) way to satisfy her love of home design, and she spent four years working on the site and its sister publications Real Homes and Period Living. She built her knowledge around all of the intricacies of renovating or building a home, while getting to pore over imagery of beautiful homes and learn more about everything from heat pumps to the works of Frank Lloyd Wright. When Future Plc acquired the brands in 2017, she was pitched a new role as assistant editor on Real Homes, where she developed a new focus around product content as they grew the brand to a global scale. Serving every reader, from those looking for a new mattress to those adding the final touches to a bathroom makeover, Lindsey was able to put her analytical mind (and thus that philosophy degree) to good work. She developed a skill around following the data to see what our readers want most from our editorial suggestions, how much they want to spend, and most importantly, what the best products are to fulfill these needs. When Future gained more lifestyle brands in 2020, she was then charged with building out the same successes on titles including Ideal Home, Homes & Gardens, and Livingetc. Lindsey went on to become editor in-chief for ecommerce on the homes brands, then later a content director for the lifestyle set at Future, including Woman&Home.
Her passion for interiors is not restricted to her working life. She lives in a small Victorian cottage in the Midlands (UK) and has spent a fair bit of time in the last 10 years shaping it into the perfect small home for modern life. In this time Lindsey has taken on a loft conversion, renovated the kitchen and bathroom (twice), installed central heating, and is currently tackling the long, but narrow, cottage garden. The dream is a wildlife-friendly space with shady spots for relaxing in. The reality is lots of overgrown paths and the need to recruit a gardener. Her next focus is giving her home office a makeover to better represent the homes brands when she is working from home.
Lindsey loves cooking, exploring new places to eat, and pretending she knows lots about wine. In a bid to never stop learning, she recently embarked on a globally recognized wine-tasting course. Her plan is to get to sommelier level, but she has no interest in working front of house – though if a lotto win comes about, a vineyard would be a lovely project. In the meantime, she satisfies her interests by planning trips to foodie destinations, both near and far, and championing local produce. The environment is also very important to her, and she is a member of her village's climate action group. This means spending her spare time helping with the website and social media accounts to connect with the community on living a more sustainable life.
