Pottery Barn Pillows are Stylish Hack for an Elevated Living Room — And Our Style Editor Found the Very Best
Designers say that throw pillows transform the look and feel of any space. Our cushion of choice? A Pottery Barn pillow all the way. Meet your new favorite homeware hack
The word ‘throw’ in ‘throw pillow’ downplays the charm of these delightful accents. They're not just for tossing onto a couch; they're little bursts of visual interest, adding a touch of flair with minimal time, effort, or investment. Need a quick room refresh? A Pottery Barn pillow is your lazy, yet stylish solution.
From lumbar to square (even spherical!), there are a plethora of pillows to choose from — some even part of the Pottery Barn sale. Highlighting their versatility, interior designer Nina Lichtenstein notes that throw pillows ‘can inject personality and style into any room.’
Say you have moss green curtains: simply toss a matching moss green pillow onto your accent chair or couch for an instant, curated designer look. Or, go for a pop of contrasting color to liven up your space — effortless elegance either way. ‘By simply swapping out or rearranging pillows, you can completely transform the look and feel of your furniture,’ muses Nina.
A house becomes a home when it reflects personality and offers comfort, and a throw pillow achieves both with ease. Let Pottery Barn's delightful pillow offerings transform your space into the home of your dreams.

Anyone who knows me is well aware that I have a thing for leather pillows, and I can confidently state that this one might be one of my favorites. Why? The perfectly distressed, rich, and caramel leather. It looks like it was repurposed from a saddle, adding a chic equestrian flair (to the delight of my inner horse girl).
How should I layer my Pottery Barn pillows?
I love this question because the only thing better than one Pottery pillow is, well, as many as possible! The more, the merrier. But before you go pillow crazy, remember that there's an art to styling them to ensure they enhance the room without overwhelming it.
Nina has five rules to layer your Pottery Barn pillows like a pro:
1. Start with a Foundation: ‘Begin with larger pillows as a base, such as 20-inch square pillows, to provide structure and support for seating,’ explains the designer.
2. Mix and Match: ‘Play with a combination of colors, patterns, and textures,' she says, adding, 'Aim for a cohesive color palette with complementary or contrasting hues.’
3. Odd Numbers: Ever heard of the rule of three? There’s something to it — odd numbers feel uniquely comforting. According to Nina, arranging pillows in odd numbers (e.g., three or five) makes for ‘a balanced and visually appealing display.’
4. Create Depth: ‘Layer pillows by alternating sizes and shapes,’ the designer advises. ‘Place larger pillows at the back and smaller ones in front to create depth and dimension.’
5. Symmetry and Balance: Nina suggests arranging ‘pillows symmetrically for a polished look,’ or doing the opposite and experimenting with asymmetry for ‘a more relaxed and eclectic feel.’
