Ring the changes with the new M&S collection and fill your home with swathes of colour and style
Update your home for the autumn seasons with this wonderfully curated collection that brings a blend of beautiful colour, contemporary design and natural finishes
Whether your home is a traditional Victorian terrace, a modern new build or a chocolate-box cottage, you’ll find something that suits your personal style in this autumn-winter collection from M&S. With a new season upon us, now is the time to refresh your rooms.
M&S may not be at the forefront of mind when you think about decor, but its recently launched autumn-winter range is set to change that. Along with on-trend fashion and delicious food, you’ll find all the newness you need for your home in store and online at M&S; this new seasonal collection is simply stunning.
And it’s not just passing trends, either. Whilst there are key colour stories that work perfectly for autumntime, the schemes are also versatile enough to extend well beyond the colder seasons and into spring and summer. It’s what makes the collection so beautiful; it’s timeless. Balancing style that lasts with trend-led, of-the-moment pieces.
Let’s dive into the three looks. ‘Casual Retreat’ comes in a palette of warm ocres, dusty blues and burnt oranges, bringing striking colour to the fore. These are shades that work wonderfully this time of year. You’ll also find painterly florals, vibrant patterns and beautiful motifs that complement beautifully.
There’s lots of texture, too, with gorgeous subtle details on fabrics, such as tassels, tufting and delicate embroidery that add lots of charactful detail. We especially love the Cotton Tufted Diamonds Cushion (£19.50) in teal blue.
The look gives a nod to the bygone Bloomsbury decorating style where people painted everything, transforming all the items in their home with colour – from doors and furniture to vases and table lamps. It became popular from 1916 in a period of austerity between wars, when people had to ‘make do and mend’.
Inspired, M&S brings this decorating style through its ‘Casual Retreat’ pieces, which look particularly delightful when used in a bedroom. The collection’s new bedding and sheets will elevate a sleep space quickly, giving it a totally new feel – great if you want a quick decor update without spending a fortune. Use a combination of bedding in a mix of florals, patterns and plains to really nail the trend and boost the space in an instant.
Blonde wood takes centre stage for furniture, calming the scheme down by adding a soft and warming tone that works well alongside standout coloured accents. Contemporary pieces such as the Cali sideboard (£699) and Tilly floor lamp (£149) provide the perfect backdrop.
For something more opulent, try ‘Boho Glamour’, which brings a warming glow and a revived sense of luxury. As temperatures drop this time of year, and the days become a little gloomier, you start to get that ‘nesting’ feeling. ‘Boho Glamour’ is perfect with its rich, dramatic palette of deep inky blues for a cocooning vibe. Vibrant pinks add a little splash of fun.
What makes ‘Boho Glamour’ especially decadent is its mix of fabrics with varied and tactile textures. Sumptuous velvets and metallic detailing bring extra opulence and glamour. Gold and brass features add intrigue and appear especially luxurious when teamed with the archival floral and exotic bird prints that you’ll find showcased on bedding, cushions and curtains. Look out for the brass Palm Candle Holder (£22.50) with its gorgeous leaf detailing.
If you prefer a simpler, more streamlined look then choose ‘Modern Living’. This trend combines Scandinavian minimalism with Japanese-inspired black ceramics and pastels. Pale colours and unfussy features set against a neutral backdrop deliver a contemporary, clean style that’s completely effortless.
Soft grey, powered pink and teal blue tie together with just a hint of pattern on cushions, bedding and accessories. Its simplicity is what makes it so impactful. Fresh pastels bring a sense of charm. Wonderfully calming for this time of year, but also ideal for carrying into the spring and summer months. We adore the Ariana Rug (from £99) which is versatile and can be used in a range of spaces.
There are no fixed design rules here, and all the pieces from the three looks can be used interchangeably. Have fun mixing and matching as you desire, to create your home’s unique style that reflects your personality. The new collection is on sale now.
