Thew new lamps lighting up our worlds
cosmic love
Long live the sputnik- style light. Having enjoyed many incarnations over the years, this offering from David Hunt Lighting is an AW19 scene-stealer. See it at the brand’s new Design Centre Chelsea Harbour showroom.
feeling shady
Type 80 – legendary designerSir Kenneth Grange’s latestline for Anglepoise – sees the conical shade introduced tothe brand for the first time.Yet this being Sir Kenneth, the devil is in the detail: a close look reveals a thin veil of light spilling from the top of the shade onto its surface. Full marks also for the ultra-matt hues of Rose Pink, Pistachio, Grey Mist and Black.
holiday romance
Online platform Lusophile is a one- stop destination for all things Portuguese. Founded by languages graduate Emily Hedges after a semester in Lisbon, the focus is on independent businesses. We love the ceramic pendant lights by Lisbonite Patricia Lobo, shown glazed in Flamingo. Amor!
Get the scooP
Rattan and scalloped shapes are two trends that look set to stay, so bring them together and you get one seriously covetable piece. From Lisa Mehydene of online emporium edit58 and designer Matilda Goad, this look-at-me shade is made in Bali by local artisans and comes with the option to customise with coloured rattan.
Scene stealers
Yes, the Chamber lights from Lee Broom sit firmly in the investment category, but consider the materials (lead crystal vessels and Carrara marble diffusers), craftsmanship and knockout aesthetics and they’re worth every penny.
IN THE SHADE
Thought super-glam was the antithesis of simple? Then check out this brassy little number bringing a subtle yet sexy twist to the humble light bulb. Guaranteed ambience for any room lacking je ne sais quoi.

STRING ALONG
Set inside or out, dinner parties lacking je ne sais quoi would do well to involve Studiomie’s Light My Table garland. Just clamp to any table measuring two to three metres and, ta-da, a cosy roof of light shines bright above. Stockist Vincent Sheppard calls it a ‘feel good enhancer’, which sounds like something we’re happy to get on board with.
STUDIO STYLE
This retro style table lamp from Oka is pretty luxurious.Hand-made from antiqued brass, with a green marble base,a single brass disc masks the lightbulb and gives the piece the feel of a vintage camera flash. Now watch the birdie.
