There are few outfits I am more attached to than my cherished antique rose, stripy pajamas. Here's why: while many might find nightwear purely functional, I consider it a fundamental part of my routine. Sure, no one is technically supposed to see me wearing my pj set, but if the act of getting out of my clothing and into my loungewear is, in itself, reinvigorating, there is a certain degree of joy that springs from dressing up for no one but yourself.

As the days get shorter, grayer, and colder, or as we pack for a work trip or a well-deserved getaway, having the best pajamas with us can be a game-changer. How so? Not only can homewear help us feel comfortable as we rest and make the most of our downtime, but it also allows us to cultivate our sense of style undisturbed by anyone's gaze, becoming the ideal outlet for our boldest — and most truthful — fashion choices. When we are off to a distant destination, our pajamas remind us we always have a place to come back to, embodying all the rituals we have temporarily left behind.

Knowing the best pajama brands is just as important as knowing the best bedding brands and the ones selected here are based on their quirkily authentic look or elegant flair, material quality, and attention to sustainable practices, as well as their versatility outside the bedroom — these are the 10 best pajama brands made for daydreaming.

1. Telerie Spadari Milano

Livingetc knows design. We spend hours testing and comparing the latest products, bringing only our edit of the very best to you. Find out more about how we review.

Serving elegance since 1946, Telerie Spadari Milano is a quintessentially Italian loungewear and homeware brand where nothing is left to chance. Specialized in high-quality textiles, the house sells some of the finest and most durable pajamas you'll ever get your hands on, with fabrics ranging from beautifully crisp linen to soft and fresh pure tana cotton poplin and sleek satin. Much like their Duomo flagship in Milan, filled with meticulously curated, colorful selections of sartorial nightwear and accessories evoking the charm of old-day Italy, their designs are stuck in time and, therefore, ever-relevant. With stripes, Gio Liberty floral patterns, or delicate pastels and neutrals you can never go wrong, and if you can't find anything that suits you right away, all you need to do is get your chosen set custom-made.

2. Anthropologie

I have a real soft spot for Anthropologie, and even more so for their pajamas and loungewear section. The incredible range of styles, fabrics, and cuts available on both their website and in-store outdoes that of most competitors. It offers everything from sporty, simple homewear sets that feel as comfy as they are elegantly beautiful to color and print-packed alternatives, satin lingerie, and feather- and lace-trimmed gems. Call me basic, but I pick my pajamas based on three simple criteria: the fabric needs to be breathable, keeping my body temperature just about right throughout the night; they have to be wide enough for me to move freely in them, eat breakfast in bed with my legs crossed if I want to, and play around with my free time as I please; and the design needs to nail the subtle balance of casualness and chicness (a la supersized collars-and-bows) I like to experiment with in my everyday. This Anthropologie Short-Sleeve Stripe Mix Smocked Top x Mixed Stripe Wide-Leg Pants combo pulls off both, which is why I am going to buy it this month.

3. TEKLA

A workwear-inspired, utilitarian blue, green, white, and light blue pajama set.

I look at TEKLA's minimalist, eccentric aesthetic as the epitome of Scandinavian design's quiet coolness. At first glance, their pajama sets might look overly simple, but it's exactly their linear, almost utilitarian feel that makes them stand out from the rest. The Copenhagen-based house knows how to bring some fun to its carefully crafted nightwear line while retaining the stripped-back, modestly colored, and yet effortlessly iconic essence of Nordic fashion. This playful poplin patchwork pajama set, cut out of 100% organic cotton, exemplifies their vision of loungewear: soft to the touch and striking to the eye, it was designed to embrace those wearing it for years to come thanks to both its evergreen stripy pattern and the extra-long yarns that make its structure more resistant to wear.

4. PANGAIA

For some, less is more. So what are the pajama brands crafting minimal designs that feel just as exclusive as the more blatantly sleek options on sale? If monochromatic outfits and pajamas are your thing — and if you'd like your fashion choices to have less of an impact on the environment — materials science company and apparel label PANGAIA is one to know. This 100% organic cotton model's foliage green has a soul-soothing power to it, while its regular, timelessly elegant fit makes it the ultimate choice for everyday relaxation. Available in three different shades and once again unisex, it is a highly versatile option, and an especially convenient one for those who like to keep it cool (both temperature and style-wise) when it comes to sleeping.

5. Olivia von Halle

Alabama printed silk pajamas

If there's anyone who has completely shifted the conversation around, and conception of, what loungewear is, it is British fashion trailblazer Olivia von Halle. Rightly considered the world's top luxury pajama brands, her eponymous label boasts a Great Gatsby-worth selection of silky sets, gowns, robes, and accessories to die for. These are so stunning that they can perfectly be worn outside the bedroom without anyone noticing — actually, people will notice you, but for the right reasons. Jewelry-embroidered golden showstoppers, dreamy patterns, and plush finishes: each of Olivia von Halle's pieces feels tastefully opulent. Out of all of them, these Alabama printed silk pajamas caught my eye for their vintage-inspired feel. For years, I wore a 1980s, thick cotton T-shirt my mom had bought on a school trip to Greece, which featured the exact same postcard motif. von Halle, of course, made it her own.

7. TBCo

Cotton Pajamas Olive Houndstooth

There is something uniquely nostalgic and charming about TBCo's modern oversized pajamas, which come in a myriad of pastel shades and funky prints, including this peaceful olive houndstooth. Available to buy at a reasonable price point, their nightwear will help you feel snug and cozy up during your time off work. Complete with etched buttons, tailored piping, and a functional, reusable cotton bag to take them with you wherever you go, and the option to have your initials embroidered on the fit — plus a matching scrunchy! — these PJs are yours to treasure for the time to come. Compared to many of the more affordable models available on the market, which often lose shape as you wear them, the meticulous tailoring of TBCo's products is reliable, and a testament to the brand's artisanal essence.

6. The White Company

Sometimes you just want your pajamas to be simple, but that doesn't mean you should compromise on style. This classic shirt-and-pants set by The White Company cut out of pure Pima cotton, demonstrates that the highest degree of elegance often lies in the finest details. The black contrast piping and ivory buttons of these pajamas, for example, perfectly complement their snow-white body, making them instantly iconic. More affordable than many of the picks included in this roundup, The White Company's nightwear is in no way less sumptuous than other competitors'. Its fabric feels fresh, structured, and resistant, while the refined designs are conceived to stand the test of time and always look relevant — whatever the trend of the season.

8. Damson Madder

I am going to be honest: I am totally biased on Damson Madder, as I have been obsessed with their fantastical looks since I first came across them on Instagram a couple of years back. But their new nightwear is straight out of a dream, and the Barbara Pj Set (captured above), specifically, is every girl's wonder — or at least that of everyone who loves pretty things. For those not familiar with the brand, Damson Madder is a small-scale fashion brand turning organic and recycled materials into whimsically designed garments that feel at once hyperfeminine and refined, eccentric, and elegant. Known for their over-the-top shoulders, collars, and ribbons, and their unexpected juxtapositions of colors and prints, the house is synonymous with contemporary womanhood. Speaking to the most fanciful, spirited, and confident version of ourselves, Damson Madder's PJs are no exception: made of cotton and available in this chocolatey burgundy and light blue stripes, these pajamas are for those "who like to keep their looks that little bit extra, even while they're asleep".

9. Sleeper

Party Pajamas Set in Black with Detachable Feathers in Black

Is it a pajama set? Is it a tailleur? Is it... both? For Ukrainian fashion designers and Sleeper co-founders Kate Zubarieva and Asya Varetsa, it makes no difference at all. Launched in 2014, the house was born off a desire to rewrite the definition of what night clothing is, making it the "first walking sleepwear". In short, you are not the only one to think these pajamas look more like actual clothes than loungewear, as they are made to make you feel stylishly beautiful in and outside the home. Informed by two diametrically opposite worlds, folklore and the jet-set, Sleeper's designs, including floaty, precious gowns and separates, rework responsibly sourced textiles and glam details into wearable masterpieces. Their "party pajamas" (shown above), which are currently the brand's best-sellers, are made out of lightweight crepe de chine embellished with mother-of-pearl buttons, tonal piping, and a detachable feathers hem. But the picture says it all.

10. TOAST

Everything about TOAST, from its homeware and accessories to its layered, stunningly curated clothing selection, feels incredibly organic. The colors, shapes, details, and most subtle threads of the fabric of the Jamie and Jessica Seaton-founded label have a dense and hypnotic earthiness to them, and that isn't a coincidence: launched in 1997 from the two's Welsh farmhouse, TOAST is as informed by the vibrancy of nature as it captures the slow-paced, idyllic, and reinvigorating spirit of lazy weekends — starting with the joy of breakfast. I love visiting their Marylebone boutique in London, as that gives you the chance to touch with hand the textured cotton and linens that make up a large part of their collections (sorry, I know I shouldn't, but I still do). The careful detailing and autumnal palette of this striped cotton flannel pajama set feels like a synthesis of the house's ethical vision of fashion: it is made to last, has a slightly kimono-like cut that makes it a valid, striking day option, and the fabric is all about embracing you with softness.
