MODULAR FURNITURE BRAND USM UNVEILS ITS NEW LONDON SHOWROOM
USM, the renowned Swiss manufacturer of modular storage furniture, has totally revamped its Clerkenwell showroom to create a modern, natural space to reflect the company’s beauty, versatility and history.
The UK showroom and office opened its doors in 2015 to a new audience of architects and designers in the capital’s most popular design district. The versatility of USM's Haller furniture - which includes its fully customisable shelving, sideboards and storage systems, as well as tables and desks - can now be seen easily throughout the space, seamlessly switching between workplace, home and back again.
Visitors are now welcomed by a lounge area, complete with a sofa and coffee table that would be at home in either a cool home or a commercial space. A low-level credenza is used to store old vinyl whilst the coffee table is configured to include planting. To the side of the lounge area is a home office complete with grey USM Haller furniture.
As a modular system USM proved its sustainable credentials, with over 85% of the existing furniture being reconfigured and used in the new showroom design. USM Haller recently received Cradle to Cradle certification which defines and develops recyclable products.
It differentiates itself from conventional recycling by maintaining the quality of the raw materials over multiple product life cycles and by only using chemicals designated as safe.
Launched on to the market in 1965 and designed in conjunction with renowned Swiss architect Fritz Haller, the USM Haller system has become a watchword for timeless design all over the world.
In 1988 it was decided in Germany for the first time ever that the USM Haller furniture system is a work of applied art and should be protected by copyright. Its acceptance into the Design Collection of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York (USA) at the end of 2001 confirmed the artistic character of the product. The design classic is used in offices and public buildings as well as in the style conscious home.
